A rich history
The Weerter Mixed Choir “Vivace” was founded in 1970 as the result of a merger of two choirs: the women’s choir Vivace and the men’s choir St.Gregory in Weert. The present secular choir achieves a high standard of quality. Continuous education of the members and an ambitious repertoire, regular workshops and intensive rehearsals ensure that the high level is maintained.
Through international concert tours and regular cooperation with ( often foreign ) choirs Vivace is well-known and appreciated in music circles and has therefore a very good reputation. Over the years the choir has become one of the best in Weert and its surroundings. The fact that Vivace won several high prizes in vocal competitions underlines its quality. It won the first prize in the category of large mixed choirs in the Limburg Choir Festival. Next to numerous concerts in the Netherlands Vivace regularly gives concerts abroad. One-day trips, weekends and longer concert tours have been undertaken, for instance to the Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany ( several times ), Austria, the USA ( Florida ), Italy, Spain and France. The choir has sung in many famous churches and cathedrals. The undisputed highlight was a concert in St.Peter’s In Rome. The concerts in the famous chapel “Notre Dame du Haute ( architect Le Corbusier ) in Ronchamps ( France ) and in the Cologne Cathedral in Germany are also among the highlights.
Vivace has contracted a professional conductor and a professional accompanying pianist who are very committed to the choir. Every week they rehearse in Weert on Tuesday night.
